NHL All-Star Game Snubbing James Neal Is Enough To Tell You The System Is Busted

therealdealjamesneal.jpgAll-Star Games/Pro Bowls are generally a sham. They rely on voting public that generally votes based on recognizable names and then after that, the small percentage of the vote elsewhere doesn't help. What makes it more of an issue, at least for me this year is that James Neal wasn't invited to the All-Star Game. Maybe he does after Alexander Ovechkin decided to be a cry baby and decline going after illegally hitting Zbynek Michalek. James Neal should've been there without the need of injury. 26 goals (27th as I write this), That is 2nd most in the NHL, tied with Jonathan Toews, behind league leader Steven Stamkos who has 32. At 47 points, that is 3 more than Scott Hartnell who was given an all-Star spot ahead of James Neal as a replacement for Jonathan Towes. Scott Hartnell? Fartnell might be having the best season of his career so far but his best hasn't been better than James Neal's Here's to James Neal You deserved to be at the All-Star Game and deserved to be more than an injury replacement if you make it to the All-Star as one.

The Rantings and Ravings of a Loud Mouthed Malcontent: Episode I: The Mayan Calendar Meets the NFL Conference Championship week: A JUXAPOSITION OF DESTRUCTION For some unknown reasons, the moderators at this fine establishment decided to give me, a self professed, 1st class idiot, a forum to delve into “Steeler Related Football Topics". I can hear the discussion now, “We gave who??? What??? and how much did we have to drink??? So before they come to their senses and take away my author status, let me delve into my 1st foray into the lighter side of sports/Steelers related topics. Unlike many more knowledgeable fans, I don't proclaim to use stats, facts or reasoned arguments. To make a reasonably literate, semi-entertaining article, I will attempt to make use of every one of the 83 IQ points that I was blessed with at birth. My friends, today I begin with a subject that without a doubt is as light-hearted as it gets. Today’s topic is: The predicted Mayan Armageddon of 2012, and how it will affect fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. We all know that In the past several years, the issue of the Mayan Calendar has been written about, publicized and even brought to life by Hollywood in cinematic form as the Movie: 2012 (ed. Note if you endured the movie 2012, I argue that you have already suffered through a personal Armageddon of sorts). But to recap, on December 21, 2012, the Mayan long count calendar just abruptly ends. To some people, the ending of the calendar is theorized to represent the end of time! Pretty heavy stuff huh? At the very least, it certainly makes the Steelers search... [Read More] |

Arians.jpgThat sound you are hearing right now from Steeler Nation isn't a Super Bowl victory celebration to hoist the 7th Lombardi or an AFC championship victory to hoist the 10th Lamar Hunt , it's the sound of joyous celebration over Steelers Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians' retirement announcement that Head coach Mike Tomlin made to today. Not since Joe Walton ran the Pittsburgh Steelers Offense had an Offensive coordinator for the Steelers been as ridiculed and well, hated as much as Bruce Arians. While he often received blame for a lot of things that related to happenings out of his control (lousy Offensive Line construction, Offensive Line injuries, Running Back injuries ...), what Bruce Arians never managed to do was take the Pittsburgh Steelers Offense to the next level. the offense's overall production had stagnated under Bruce Arians when it should've improved with consistency. Do we want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers Offense be as productive in the points category like New England, New Orleans, Green Bay, Detroit and Indianapolis have been over the years? I do. I wouldn't want to see us become what all of those teams have become which is a lot of Offense at the expense of Defense but elite offenses rank top 10 in most Offensive categories. The Pittsburgh Steelers don't. There's room for improvement. 3 Years prior to Bruce Arians :

When the rumors of the Pittsburgh Pirates showing interest in Edwin Jackson popped up, I was ecstatic. Edwin Jackson is a good pitcher with a lot of upside and potential. Those are the types of players that you like to see the Pittsburgh Pirates go after. Usually when the words "upside" and "potential" are used to describe players, it means that the player comes at a relatively decent cost. Not Edwin Jackson. The interest in Edwin Jackson disappeared in 3 ways. First it was the asking price of either 5 years at over $50 million or $15 million per season.
A baseball official familiar with the Yankees’ thinking called Hal Steinbrenner’s Wednesday night meeting with agent Scott Boras “a courtesy,” but the Yankees’ aversion to Jackson relates only to the price, not the player. Boras was believed to be asking for a five-year deal at about $15 million per
