Frustrated Iditarod dogs lead mushers to local snowmobile dealership

WILLOW, ALASKA—The 2011 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race took a peculiar turn on Sunday as all of the 62 dog teams veered off course and led their mushers directly to Willow Creek Powersports, a local snowmobile dealership. Only 150 miles into the over 1,000 mile long race that stretches from Anchorage to Nome, the perturbed dogs pulled into the dealership’s parking lot and refused to leave, sending a not-so-subtle hint to their mushers.
According to some mushers, the protest was a longtime coming. “These dogs aren’t dumb,” explained legendary musher Tim Blodgett. “When they see a snowmobile effortlessly fly by them several times a day, they’re going to start to wonder why the hell they’re running to the cusp of death. Can’t say I blame them. We’ve had snowmobiles for over 50 years, it's pretty stupid to use dogs. You’d think we get with the times, but hey, we're Alaska, we do things a bit differently.”
