I still wish the Bucs took him with #1.

Re: Nats Take It Easy With Rendon
So does Benny.
But if Rendon continues down his current path as a consistently injury prone player with nothing but above average power numbers, then we made the right decicion.
I'm more bummed that Rendon was both injured and lost most of his power last year with the new bats cuase i was excited about the prospects of adding a bat in the 1st round but it was not to be

Re: Nats Take It Easy With Rendon
Well that doesn't seem right. If he has above average power numbers even despite being "injury prone" (although I think that is simply a mischaracterization of what injuries he's had) then it still doesn't mean we made the right decision...Cole has to NOT suck as well...Cole has to not have the injury problems that high-pitch count college arms traditionally have...and Cole has to figure out a way to actually be the pitcher that his "ability" suggests he could be. Right now the numbers do not indicate that he IS that pitcher...he needs to become that for it to be the correct choice. Its not as simple as whether Rendon gets injured...Cole has to produce as well.

Re: Nats Take It Easy With Rendon
Typo. Meant to say that below average or average power numbers. Actually it wasn't a typo, not sure what the hell I was thinking.
Either way, until he discovers his power stroke from a couple of years ago and can stay healthy, he wasn't worth a #1. not that I'm quite high on Cole, but then again, this draft was a perfect example of why MLB needs to impliment the ability to trade up and down the draft board. I'd have taken an extra pick in the Top 2-3 of the draft and drafted lower in the 1st round

Re: Nats Take It Easy With Rendon
Because of all of the variables with drafting high schoolers or college kids and different bats, tired arms, etc., I tried to keep it simple.
For me, the PBC--on paper--has better pitching in the minors than hitters. We need to have hitters who can hit with power, especially corner infielders,
Cole and Rendon both are unproven at their strengths; given that situation, I would have opted for the hitter (which is why I praised NH for signing Bell).
BTW, doesn't "almost drafting Rendon" and the fact that there were a ton of comments about him at MLB draft time, allow this topic in the Pirates segment???
