    Default Farewell to Jennifer Langosch

It's a sad day for this Pirates fan as Jennifer Langosch is moving on from being the Pirates beat reporter and moving on to become the beat writter for the Cardinals. I always thought that she did a great job over her 5 years, but this is her last week.
Schemes shouldn't be employed to cover weaknesses, but to enhance team strengths.

...What did we get for her??? Player To Be Named Later or Cash??? She was not gonna sign again with us anyway...
Dealing her for High School Journalists was a smart move for the new rebuilding program probably.....

I thought she did a good job as well... as always with this stuff... now we hold our breath to see who the "new" beat writer for the Pirates is.....

The new guy is Tom Singer https://twitter.com/#!/Tom_Singer He is from the 'Burgh, but has written all over the place; I used to read him when he wrote for the L.A. Herald-Examiner.

Here's his latest blog post: http://tomsinger.mlblogs.com/2012/01...-to-potpourri/

...and his first one concerning the switch between him and Jen: http://tomsinger.mlblogs.com/2012/01...lo-pittsburgh/

According to Jen, the switch will be on Jan. 21st. I will miss her, as she always did a credible job on the Bucs' beat. I think youse guys are gonna like Singer, though.

Thanks for the links cocktails. Does sound like he's going to be a good read.

Actually, if Singer is the new beat writer, that should be a step up in experience, and probably knowledge as well.
I don't know why anyone expects anything major from free agency! They're going to build the team through the system and supplement through free agency. They'd have to give Fielder a Pooholes contract to come here. I'd like to land that type of player as much as the next guy. But it's not going to happen. We can ***** and moan all we want, but is it going to make a difference? No!!

As with others, I thought JL did a fine job and will be missed, which is not to say that somebody else can't do what she did.

It just comes out as someone we like leaving the Burgh for a place they think is better and that place just happens to be a division/conference competitor!!

    Good luck Jennifer!

Not likely cheaper. He's been writing for years. If it's the same guy, he used to pitch for the Dodgers and Angels, way back when.

It will probably take Singer a little time to build his contacts and good ol' boy bona fides with the people who count in Burgh ball, so I hope we are gentle through spring training and beyond. I also liked Jennifer. She was, for me, in that small group of go to guys just behind DK - and Kipper, of course.

When I read Jennifer's articles and reports, it always felt as if they were coming from a Pirates fan.......the enthusiasm behind a fan, hopefully this Tom Singer's work will have the same feel.

    Amigo -

Singer's pretty much an "old-timer," one who's been around the block more than a coupla times. He's originally from the 'Burgh (check out the blog posts I linked up above...), too - there's that...

I think everyone's gonna be pretty happy with his coverage - if the stuff I used to read in the L.A. Her-Ex is any indication - he's fair, and also not afraid to call "bull****" when he sees it, but as the beat writer for MLB, there isn't going to be a lot of negative stuff, just as with Jen.
