Default 30 Days and 8 Hours Until Pitchers and Catchers Report..WOOT WOOT

Ok so were at 30 days until the Pitchers and Catchers report times running out...

In your opinion are the Pirates done shopping this offseason???

If they have more shopping, what positions/level of player do they bring in???

    Any reasoning behind it???

    Are they doen shopping? ..Yes

    Should they be...NO!

They SHOULD bring in a LEGIT power hitter for 1B and RF ( I like Alex presley for RF, but we already have 2 other OFs with speed/avg, we need POWER)

They should bring in a solid (or 2) SP. Our rotation is WEAK and i truly doubt they can all go the whole season

They should make a play for Oswalt. Give him 10 mill 1 season. They only upgrade at 1st is if Lee decides he wants to plauy in pitt. Right now he dont but he may not have a choice. Pena signed with Rays, Prince will end up in DC or Seatle. If he dont sign here then Jones and Megee will platoon

    Roy
    Eric
    Morton
    Jmac
    Lincoln

    Karestens 6th starter long man.

Pirates are most likely done. There's nobody really available for 1B and RF that is worth whatever their asking price is, not in comparison to whatever small upgrade they would be for what this team already has.

Pitching, I'm more than content with what we have right now. We have 5 good pitchers that showed that they could carry the team through 4 months of the season competing for 1st place in the division. Morton and McDonald should only get better, if Karstens can duplicate what he did last year, then great, his performance last year alone justifies rewarding him them opportunity to pitch in the starting rotation this year, not be run out of it like Hittman suggests. Correia will eat innings in his final year here, Bedard when healthy will pitch like the #1/2 guy that he is. We have a few pitchers in AAA that could break out well enough to be promoted later this year or for next, so overpaying badly for Roy Oswalt makes no sense whatsover. Competing against the Braves and Red Sox for Oswalt means we'd pay 10% plus what those teams would pay for Oswalt and he's not worth it. He's 34 years old and on the decline side of his career. That's not what this team should be investing in especially considering the length we'd be obligated in. Stick with what we have and hope that McPhereson continues on what he did last year and that Owens and Wilson bounce back giving us 3 young options for the near future (that you dont want to block with overpriced old farts)

The Rays have agreed to sign Carlos Penato a one-year deal that will bring the powerful first baseman back to Tampa Bay, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports on Twitter. He'll obtain approximately $7.25MM,

Now that is SHOPPING! Pirates could've afford that and still been operating in the black (for those who worry about Nutting not making a profit)! And at 1 year it isn't like it would continue to drain the Bucs for years to come!

They offered Lee his arbitration price at $7.5 mil (i.e. they were willing to pay it), so what's your point again about money?

My point was the Bucs could have afforded him and still made a profit. And by doing so, showed that 2012 isn't a write-off season by adding a legit player

One has nothing to do with the other.

Also - you have absolutely NO idea whether the Pirates made him an offer.

ALSO - He has ties to Tampa, and was willing to return there.

ALSO - Florida has NO State Income Tax - guess what that means in PA dollars?

Your predilection for turning EVERYTHING the FO does into "Nutting / profit" does nothing to bolster what rational points you do make.

ALSO: STILL WAITING for your citation of "Fielder enhancing."

they already DID offer that, they did it to Derrek Lee. One thing you Lemmings need to practice up on is Reading comprehension. Yinz guys have the ignorance part down. Vandelay stated in the post you quoted something that answered your whine..

You guys wonder you get labeled "trolls"

Oh no, Kip - they can read...

But when faced with evidence or citation that refutes their point, they must then retaliate with a strawman, as they have no comeback. Or ignore it completely, as he's doing on the "Fielder" topic.

Isn't there still some budget available for the roster this year, which could mean that they still might do something? I don't mind what they have now, but if there's budget to add pitching depth, then they ought to do it. Bedard, McDonald and Karstens are all fine to start the year, but Morton may face some lingering injury issues, and Correia was crap after the all star break. Plus there's Bedard's history of injuries. I don't think you're blocking anyone at this point, except maybe for Lincoln, who's had a few chances to prove his worth with not a lot of success.
