PK Subban Fined $2.5K For Tripping Chris Kunitz
Canadiens' Subban fined for trip of Kunitz
By Josh Yohe, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Sunday, January 22, 2012
The NHL fined Montreal defenseman PK Subban $2,500 for a "dangerous trip" of Penguins left wing Chris Kunitz during Friday's game at Consol Energy Center.
Subban used his left foot to kick out Kunitz's skates from behind, causing him to fall feet-first into the boards behind Montreal's net. Kunitz was not injured.
"The league reviewed the play, as they do all of them," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said, "and gave some discipline in the form of a fine. I think they saw a slewfoot."
This is the second straight game that has featured a slewfoot controversy. The night before in New York, Rangers center Brad Richards accused Penguins left wing Matt Cooke of a slewfoot. This accusation irritated the Penguins, who maintain that Cooke did nothing illegal.
The NHL announced Friday morning that Cooke's contact with Richards would not be reviewed for discipline. Bylsma noted that the play drew more attention than was warranted because of Cooke's reputation for dirty play. Cooke has only been assessed 14 penalty minutes this season.
Pens hire pro scout
The Penguins hired former Atlanta general manager Don Waddell as a professional scout. Waddell, a Detroit native, was the only general manager during the first 11 seasons of the Thrashers' existence. He became president of the Thrashers during their final season in Atlanta but did not accompany the franchise to Winnpeg.
The Penguins needed a new scout following the recent resignation of former player Kevin Stevens.

The Waddells are friends of my girlfriend. Good people, but Don had no luck as GM in ATL.

It kinda worries me to have Don waddel evaluating talent considering what he requested for Marian Hossa (two 3rd liners in Christensen and Armstrong, a low draft pick and Angelo Esposito) .... then again, looking at our draft results since Ray Shero took over as gM and it's like we've been getting those types of results all along

Yeah... I think getting 3 players and a pick was about the best you could do , for a player you were going to lose anyway. Pittsburgh came late to that party and probably offered more than anyone else.
The way things turned out... the Pens didn't win a cup and Hossa left.
Who knows what Esposito might have been and he not been injured several times.
