A cable wire that demolition crews were using to try to bring down a stubborn panel of the Civic Arena's roof snapped this afternoon.

There were no apparent injuries.

The wire was connected to a crane inside the arena. Workers are discussing what to do.

The panel was scheduled to come down at 10 a.m., but it would not budge, despite crews using blow torches.
The top of the panel is partially collapsed, but the bottom slipped out of its track and can't be moved easily.
Work to collapse the roof panels began on Saturday. The roof's stainless steel skin has already been stripped away.

Crews are collapsing the panels onto the arena floor. The debris will be cut into small pieces for removal.
