Default Oscar's in North Myrtle Beach

Oscars' in N. Myrtle is fantastic.... Lots of memoribilia and collectibles on the walls. The owner was from Pgh (deceased), and has bread shipped in weekly from somewhere in Pgh... A great place to watch the Steeler games, but get there early... At one point last year they had to turn folks away by 12:30 because they already had 300 Steeler fans in there and were at max-occupancy... I was there for it!

For those of you familiar with N. Myrtle, it's right on 17, and basically across from Barefoot Landing.

If you notice, there's an "abnormality" with the facade on the front of the building, and Steeler logo.... The hypocycloids are painted in inverse order of color.... The painter didn't know the order, so the owner decided to leave it as a trivia point.... He says he's asked about it at least once a week!....

Looks like this will be the second consecutive year that I am not going to NMB!!!

Oscars will be missed!!! The good news is that apparently my annual vacay has been moved to the Ft. Myers Beach...at least I can still hit the beach (and I do like the gulf coast)

Haven't been to Myrtle Beach in years, not since it was the "in" place to go back in the 1980's.

Yup... You're correct... It's actually spelled with a "backwards z"... It was in the heart of the Grand Strand, and actually was forced to move after the pavillion was torn-down... They actually have all the tables set-up with a "hole" in the middle, where they place a bucket for chicken wing bones, oyster shells, and shrimp peelings.... I've been there many times, and even have a shirt from their place...

... And BTW... Oscar's is actually located in North Myrtle beach (if anyone views this thread before visiting)... It's about a 30 minute drive north of the heart of Myrtle Beach due to traffic and stoplights.

I've been there twice this season, and will be visiting again over the Labor Day weekend...

Hope you enjoy it!... I have a condo down there, and get there about a half dozen times a year...

If you can, I really suggest checking Oscar's out... The food is fantastic, and there's lots of memoribilia to look at... Like I said, it's right on 17, so you can't miss it... Just drive north till you see Barefoot Landing (shopping area) on the left, then immediately start looking for Oscar's on your right.

There's actually quite a few cool things to do... If you (or your better half) are into shopping, You cannot go wrong with Broadway At The Beach, or Barefoot Landing... Here's the links:

    http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/eventscalendar.aspx
    http://www.bflanding.com/shopping

But the one thing I extremely highly suggest is the "Dolphin cruise" out of Calabash (about a 20 minute drive north of Oscar's).... It's about a 2 hour plus cruise on a 40-foot boat that goes out to a shrimping boat... It actually tucks-up right behind it and explains all about the operations of a "shrimp boat"... The dolphins follow it due to the free meals they get from the excess shrimping, and it's a REALLY cool thing to see... It costs about $20 a head (less if you get a discount book at any convenience/grocery store and use the coupon)... I can honestly say it's one of the coolest things to do... Here's the link:

    http://www.hurricanefleet.com/shrimping.shtml

... Other than that, the best thing to do is to enjoy the sun, surf, and sand!....

There's lots of good restraunts up in Little River and down in Murrell's Inlet... I'd avoid alot of the crap right in the tourist areas, but that's just me after going there for 40+ years...

The best BBQ in that area is across the street from Oscar's. It's called Stickey Fingers and it's phenominal.

Our favorite seafood place is the Duffy St at the corner of Ocean and Main in North Myrtle.

Food's great and it's just a small quaint place.
