Ben Sheets 10 million after not pitching for over a year?

Very few players worth signing make it to free agency, because the team that has them signs them through their prime. The only exception are Scott Boras clients, and the ones of his that are worth signing (i.e. Holliday, Texeiera, and probably Alvarez once he's eligible) will be priced right out of range of the Pittsburgh, Milwaukee's and Cincinnati's of the world. That's just a fact of the economics.

When the Pirates lost Bonds, Bonilla, and Drabek and all the others to free agency, the biggest mistake they made was not offering them arbitration. They failed to get draft picks for players they had no chance of retaining and they didn't trade them because they were contending at the time. Let's hope they build something that can last this time.

    Fair request, Kip.

I'll go to his blog and see what I can find that substatiates what I wrote.

(In that picture, BS doe's look like the guy who played "Mr. Kotter" in that TV series, with John Travolta.)

Personally I'd wish for you to say "I take back what I said about Smizik, he really is an idiot, I just don't trust Bob Nutting" ... rather than read through Smizik columns/blogs. That's like having someone look through a BBW magazine for something pretty

I'm not sure who wrote the question (I'm 100% sure it wasn't actually Smizik), but this comes from Shawn Hoffman's Baseball Prospectus chat:

Bob Smizik (Pittsburgh): Do you ever read my blog? I am the only guy in town who calls out Nutting/Huntington/Russell when they spew forth more nonsense.

Shawn Hoffman: I personally like the nonsense they spew. And if I'm not mistaken, you and Ron Cook spent a long, long time gushing over Littlefield, even as late as 2006. Fail.
