Default Guerin calls for NHL ban on hits to head

I wonder if their is any animosity in the Pens dressing room over Cooke.

Guerin expected Cooke to be suspended.
"If a guy gets hurt like that with a shot to the head, there's got to be something," Guerin said. "Actions happen.

"Guys don't mean to hurt each other, but they do. You got to pay a price for that."

Guerin said players must know they can play the game with protection against hits to the head, especially those that a player can't see coming.

"We're all under the same umbrella, whether the guy's on my team and I'm sitting right next to him or he's playing in California," Guerin said. "It doesn't matter. We're all playing in the same league."[/HIGH-LIGHT]

Tough to tell. Guerin does mention that even if there is no intent to injure. Guerin is saying that headshots regardless of intent and any of that should get suspensions.

I can't say I entirely disagree but then again, point the finger at Colin Campbell, because he was too much of as coward to suspend Mike Richards, everyone else is getting the same infraction.

remove the instigator penalty, then we'll see whose tough enough to try to deliver a head shot. no judgement call needed on the part of the refs, if some ******bag wants to give a headshot he is getting pummeled by a guy like Colton Orr, free of consequences. Players policing themselves is the whole reason why there is fighting in Hockey, so why not let them do it.
The only player in the NHL more overpaid than MAF is Jordan Staal

I disagree with comparing to Richards, Cooke was suspended twice in the last year for hits to the head, he is a repeat offender. If you steal something once you might get probabtion, the 2nd and 3rd time you are serving time.

I agree that Colin Campbell is a chicken **** who in his attempt to show "consistency" did anything but deliver consistency with respect to Cooke. Consistently **** up maybe.

To try and remove players that lack any hockey talent and skill from the game and payrolls? :d :

but the previous suspensions in a way fall into that whole "inconsistency" range. that's been the issue. There needs to be a clear cut Rule or you're going to continue to get this sort of inconsistency...

Think of it like this as well... cooke is a repeat offender by virtue of suspension... what about repeat offenders that don't get suspended? you're still talking about a player doing the same things but because the judgment is in the hand of the refs and Campbell you end up with this mess too...

I generally ignore "repeat offender" stuff because the NHL is completely inconsistent. If you go by repeat offenders and not, Alex Ovechkin "sin't" a repeat offender for knee on knees. Even though he blatanlty took out Gonch's, he never got penalized or suspended... still doesn't mean he wasn't "really" a repeat offender. The NHL just decided to ignore one of the incidents cause they couldn't afford the ratings loss of Ovechkin being suspended in the playoffs
