Pirates make first roster cuts

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pittsburgh Pirates just made their first six cuts of the spring this afternoon.

After a 10-5 win over the Yankees, the Pirates optioned outfielder Brandon Jones and shortstop Argenis Diaz to Class AAA Indianapolis.

Outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and relievers Ronald Uviedo and Ramon Aguero were optioned to Class AA Altoona.

And shortstop Brian Friday was reassigned to minor league camp.

That reduces the spring roster from 66 to 60.

No surprises there. Mainly just the non-catching position players who have some minor league work to do and aren't likely to see the majors this year, and the two relievers who are furthest away from the big leagues. Cuts it down to mainly the likely big leaguers and the minor league vets at this point aside from Bryan Morris.

Exactly I want him Cut. No need for him with Church on team. It will show if the Pirates are keeping the best players or afraid the Bay trade makes them look bad if Moss somehow is kept. Want to see Kevin Hart not make the rotation also, he has done next to nothing his whole time here and is being rocked in spring training, he needs to earn the spot, he is not. D Young is earning a spot and I expect Vasquez to be traded or released also.

But if Moss gets cut it would end a long tradition of there being at least one worthless guy on the roster that I absolutely hate. Joining the ranks of Marc Wilkins, Ryan Vogelsong, Ty Wiggington, Ian Snell, Jim Tracy's mascot Jose Hernandez, hell Tracy himself, etc.

That is why Hart will be in the rotation. Every 5th start you will have that guy to hate. If Jones is in left, Church his backup, also a lefty, there is zero need for Moss as a 5th outfielder, also lefthanded, who can't hit when he starts, let alone off the bench.

Jose Hernandez isn't gone he's going to play at WV or SC this year. He's just not the Jose Hernandez you all are thinking of, this is the Jose Hernandez NH drafted last year.

Jose Hernandez isn't gone he's going to play at WV or SC this year. He's just not the Jose Hernandez you all are thinking of, this is the Jose Hernandez NH drafted last year.

I know that we drafted an jose Hernandez. I don't think waiting for Laroche was making any connection between the 2 though.
