Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
I have not seen Lincoln's two starts. I am hopeful he is working things out in the bigs and will get it together. Never heard this type of criticism about his stuff before though...are you being serious?

Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
I'll start worrying about him if he's pitching poorly and hasn't shown command and improvement after about 40 starts.
His stat line should be better as 3 of the runs against the Nats should have been unearned.

Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
I am not worried about Brad yet by any means, but I am sure I could get worried before his 40th start (if he pithed 12 games like Morton earlier this year, I'd worry). I have always seen pretty good reports about his change up and his fastball is supposed to be lively enough given his curve. We shall see - I remain quite hopeful that he will develop into a strong #3 guy with #2 upside. I am rooting for him and am glad he is up now working through this rather than pitching in AAA.

Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
His Changeup has and will continue to be a work in progress. He uses it very seldomly and Huntington has said that Lincoln is going to need that pitch and to trust it to have success. Lincoln's not used it and ut's making his fastball recognizable and easy to hit and has people laying off hsi breaking pitches which has resulted in the higher BB/9 numbers in his 2 starts compared to his career line.
He's also a slow starter as well. He had a crummy year last season after getting the AAA promotion and turned it around this year across the board
Just keep in mind that Lincoln is a command/control pitcher. After the TJ he lost the polish to strike guys out at an above average rate. If he can sniff the 7's in the K/9 department he was getting in AAA the past 2 seasons this year I'll be surprised, shocked and ecstatic. He can probably obtain those numbers but I'd look for a pedestrian K-rate for now.
Lincoln needs to work in the changeup more

Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
He was drafted in the 1st as a high #1 but TJ takes that luster away. He's probably not that #1 draft pick type of "elite" talent anymore. Maybe he develops into that as he shakes off the TJ and becomes more comfortable with what he can do, he masters the changeup some more.
The potential is there. The potential is there for a lot of guys it's a matter of showing it. Probably will take some patience and struggles

Yeah, I have to agree that a solid #3 is the best we can hope for

Re: Brad Licolns as a Pitcher is a Pretty **** good Hitter
He has potential to get back up near there (#1 draft potential), anyone has that really. He's still young and still sort of coming out of recovery, but he doesn't have the same ceiling as he did currently pre-TJ and really shouldn't be looked at as a former #1 talent IMO and you agree. I think that #1 pick talent got erased some with TJ.
Still, he's developing that changeup and has shown flashes of being very good this year at AAA. He's not even beginning to hit his prime years yet. You don't need to blow people away with strike outs galore to be an Ace or good. Doug Drabek proved that year ago winning the Cy Young. He had a low 90's straight FB but "pitched" well. He had a mediocre Zach Duke-esque 5.9 K/9 the year he won the Cy Young but he had good command.
I like Strike out pitchers too, but you need to get rid of this belief that unless you throw a high number of K's you can't be an Ace of a staff or have some good success.
