The UFC's traditional year-end show will be a first-of-the-year event with UFC 125 tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 1 in Las Vegas.

A source close to the pay-per-view event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the 2011 event tentatively is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The event kicks off a new year for the UFC, which hosts an annual high of 24 events in 2010.

No fights currently are scheduled for UFC 125, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission has not yet added it to the this year's schedule. However, a middleweight title rematch between champ Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, as well as a recently announced lightweight title fight between champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, are both possibilities for the card, though UFC officials haven't booked any specific fights for the night's lineup.

The UFC hosted three of of its four major ("numbered") Las Vegas events at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2009. The other took place at its sister property, the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

UFC 125 will be the 18th UFC event held at the MGM venue in the organization's 17-year history.

UFC officials, who work at the company's headquarters in Las Vegas, traditionally host holiday shows close to home.
