I loved the "clouding people's minds" bit, though - the implication that the management are somehow Jedi-esque is eye-wateringly funny: "Those aren't the relief pitchers you're looking for..."

Obi-Wan Huntington
It's not perfect, I took 5 minutes max to do this. Maybe our friends at Rumbunter - www.rumbunter.com can do a better job and run with this. some of the best Pirates photoshopping on the web over there

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)

I'd be ok if they brought back Xavier Nady.
He hasn't done jack in two years so he would be pretty easy to get.
He'll only be 32.
He might be able to bounce back and be a solid player in that swing OF/1B role.

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)
Did some *** clown REALLY say this? (no reply needed, I realize he actually did.)
This makes me kinda glad I don't live in town, 'cause I'd find this guy and smack the living **** out of him.
This is a perfect example, along with Bobbo's blog, of how ignorant people keep poisoning the well.
It's this kind of idiocy that makes things difficult for the Pirates' marketing dept. to sell the product. Gah.
And with that in mind, I kinda retract my earlier statement, because if I did live in town (tahn), I could get REALLY reasonably priced season tix.
Free your *** and your mind will follow.

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)
I just read one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever read, and it nearly made me spit beverage out of my mouth from laughing so hard.
This is the extent that some will go to when it comes to matters involving the Pirates.
Check out this guy's reasoning as to why McLouth has stunk it up with the Braves:
The Bautista trade?.....Senseless....It was one of those deals that Neal Huntington just itches to complete....Senselessly.
[HIGH-LIGHT]The McLouth trade?....Terrible....We traded a solid ball player for three "Problem Prospects."[/HIGH-LIGHT]
You'll never see Morton, Hernandez or Locke do diddly in the majors.
[HIGH-LIGHT]As for McLouth's struggles....I attribute alot of it to the trade. Some people handle unexpected trades well....Some don't.
I believe McLouth is still shocked[/HIGH-LIGHT]....I know I am.

This thread should get stickied
It should be renamed "The Idiotic Things Retards Say". It can be nothing but quotes from The Lemmings blog, or DK's comment section or some media writer or comment section at pirates.com ...
anyone game?

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)
That he did Keep, that he did.

Smize actually had a decent article today taking the AP to task for their absurd article yesterday. It's worth a glimpse:
http://community.post-gazette.com/bl...es-unfair.aspx
Now to stick with the thread theme, here's a gem from a commenter on that article. He's addressing why the Pirates didn't keep Bay and Nady:
Keep those players until they deals run out. Offer them the arbitration you know they will refuse and then they leave.
Well first, they're FA's, not arb eligible. Second, why would you let them walk for nothing when you can trade them for something?
Then you get sandwich picks between rounds one and two in the draft. That's a heck of a lot better than the bag of baseballs they got for Bay, isn't it?
Oh wait, that's it. This commenter genius did want us to get a return. Well, somehow we're to get a return after not matching an arbitration, but hey lets roll with Einstein here.
So somehow, getting sandwich picks in the draft, which who knows what round they'd be in, is somehow better than trading for players with an already established minor league record.
Brilliant!!
But the Pirates don't think like that. Their first order of business is to save money.
Yes, because obviously signing bonuses for sandwich picks in the draft is cheaper than a player's minor league salary...

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)
Wow, wow.
Here are the 2008 records before and after the trades in each of those years:
2008
APR 11-16
May 15-13 (26-29)
JUN 12-15 (38-44) (note; 33-34 as late as 6/12)
JUL 12-14 (50-58) (note: Bay, Nady traded 7/31)
AUG 7-21 (57-79)
SEP 10-16 (67-95)
2009
APR 11-10
MAY 11-17 (20-28)
JUN 13-11 (34-38) (note: all trades begin)
JUL 8-17 (42-55)
AUG 9-19 (51-74)
SEP 8-20 (58-94)
So what we really have aren't "90+ loss" teams. Only AFTER the trades did they become that. BEFORE the trades, each year the team hovered around .500 near the trade deadline. To me, adding would have been just as plausible as dismantling. Unfortunately in Nutting world, adding meant putting out $s to honor McLouth's contract extension, picking up Freddy Sanchez' option, keeping Jack Wilson and perhaps taking on more salary in a vetern pitcher and/or player. I'm personally convinced Nutting was terrified the 2009 team might actually might have caught lightning in a bottle forcing him to shell out to retain the higher salaried vets and that's why the team was broken up beginning 5-6 weeks before the trading deadline last year. It's much easier to claim the team loses 90-100 games every year and sell constant rebuilding/restocking, etc.

Re: Check Out This Crap (ht: Kipper)
So.... basically all of them retards decided to completely blatantly ignore the leaked documents and facts and continue to promote bogus ideas like retaining a bunch of garbage vets that are way overpaid with money that WE DONT HAVE.
Hello, Howard Baldwin, Bob Smizik's Blog is calling, they need you to teach economics classes on how to properly spend money you don'[t have and lead the franchise into bankruptcy for a few more wins per year and appease the fan base.
