I made the statement last year, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will probably win the Daytona 500 because it will be the 10 year anniversary of his father's death.

Being a NASCAR fan, I have watched for the last ten years as events unfolded in way's that Vince McMahon would be envious.

Need a close finish, presto.....there's is a piece of debris caution...meaning everyone gets grouped together for an exciting finish....For those of you who aren't NASCAR fans, a peice of debris can lead to a cut tire, but in essence can be called at anytime...

The Jimmy Johnson is a lap down but the first car a lap down caution, this means if you are the first car a lap down, you get to advance onto the lead lap at the end of the caution. Its called the Lucky Dog...and wouldn't you know it, NASCAR's golden boy is the recipient of this seemingly everytime he gets a lap down. "Theres a caution in turn three for debris and JImmy Johnson gets the lucky dog"

And my favorite, The Hendrick Cars (Rick Hendrick is NASCAR's most important team owner: Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt, Martin) on a final stop get two tires (quicker pit stop but should be less speed) and the field gets four (longer stop but should be more speed), but the Hendrick cars magically drive away from the field. Its not supposed to work that way.

Now before I get bashed as a Hendrick Hater, I have been a Mark Martin fan forever, so I am rooting for a Hendrick Car, but can't help but feel that the Hendrick Cars simple are allowed more Horsepower or other advantages...after all they sell the most merchandise....

Nascar loves an emotional sappy story and its fans will eat up Earnhardt winning the 10 yr. anniversary, (and buy the merchandise) So expect Dale Jr. to win this Sunday....

THese reasons are why I have went from being a pretty hardcore Nascar fan to a passing fan at best.....IT just seems phony and contrived to me.

NASCAR is one of the things I still have difficulty adapting to. I'm used to the Formula 1-style tracks. My wife is still scandalised that Japanese cars comete and win on occasion.

I did have an idea for randomising the results in NASCAR. Have a '71 Chrysler Newport parked mid-way around the track.

I enjoy NASCAR... I've been to about a dozen races, including the inaugural Brickyard and race in Texas... Lived in Daytona for a few years back before everything became "politically correct" and enjoyed Speedweek each year...

... Having said that, I have also became a "passing fan" due to much of the hoopla going on nowadays...

It may not be too interesting for folks to watch on tv unless you've been to a race before... As my dad says; "Watching cars go around in circles for 500 miles just doesn't do anything for me."... But it's a completely different story seeing it live in person.

... I'm not wearing the tin foil hat and thinking there are conspiricies, but it just isn't what it used to be...

I have six of them!

But I agree races in person are fun. I have been to Dover, Bristol and Richmond.
